BOOK REVIEW: Daimon (Covenant #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This going to be a very short review since Daimon is just a prequel/ novella to the entire Covenant Series. Anyhow, it focuses on the life Alex and her mother lived when they left the Covenant.

I just can't imagine how my life would be if the things that happened to Alex happened to me. Honestly, this novella just made me love her more. She's such a strong and awesome character. I wouldn't blame her for the way that she acted when things started to go from bad to worse in just minutes. Anyway, you'll see why she is the way she is when you read this.

I have this love/hate thing when it comes to novellas. I feel like they're just too short and I always end up reading them in just one sitting. This novella did answer a lot of questions so yeah, if you are a fan and you want to delve deeper into Alex's character then you should go ahead and grab this book.I'd give this a 4/5 star rating though since I feel like it was just too short.

BOOK REVIEW: Half-Blood (Covenant #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

It's official. I am a certified Jennifer L. Armentrout fan. I finally got my hands on a paperback of Half-Blood (Covenant #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout and yes, I am in love with it. She's a genius. I seriously couldn't believe that I just started this series now. Anyway, the novel circles around Greek Myths and of course, the gods so yeah, it did get my attention. I've been meaning to read this for quite some time now but the book is kinda' expensive here in the Philippines and my TBR just keeps on piling up.

To start with, I really like kick ass heroines so yeah, I started adoring Alexandria/Alex the moment I started reading Half-Blood. I love her snarky comebacks and the fact that she doesn't take sh*t from anyone. She is a half-blood by the way.Her mom is a Pure and her dad is an ordinary human. I did want to strangle her from time to time since she refuses to listen even when it's so obvious that she should. Her hot temper always got in the way of her thinking and everything just goes downhill from there. Anyway, the fact that she managed to stand tall after everything that she's been through just proves how awesome she really is.

And of course, with a feisty heroine comes a cool, calm, sexy and everything that's hot male counterpart, Aiden. Aiden is a pure and he is Alexandria's love interest. He's a sentinel and a relationship between Pures and Half-Bloods is strictly forbidden. Anyway, I love Aiden. He was just so dreamy and everything that a girl could ever ask for. He offered to train Alex in order for her to remain in the Covenant despite the fact that he's a full time Sentinel and not a teacher. Anyway, on the outside he always seems so cold and aloof but whenever I see glimpses of his gentle and charming side I just can't help but melt in a puddle. Seriously, how can someone be that dreamy? Anyway, I cant wait to read more about him Pure. TBD?? Where the hell is my copy of Pure?

 And then, there's the appearance of Seth, the Apollyon. I don't really want to dive deeper into what an Apollyon is since I might just end up spoiling the novel for those who haven't read it yet but I smell the beginning of a love triangle of some sort. We'll see. I actually like Seth since he seems bubbly even if he can be unstable at times but other than that I think he's a cool character. We'll see as the story goes.

Overall, I enjoyed reading another one of Jennifer L.Armentrout's novels. She's a genius and she's just that awesome since her novels come out really fast. I love the build up of the story. It wasn't too fast or too slow. The love story which is very minimal at this point is actually quite refreshing since the author steer cleared of the whole instalove trend that seems to be so famous in the YA genre. The sexual tension or whatever it is that people might want to call it between the characters is very subtle and made me enjoy the story even more. It was sexy, it was captivating and everything about it refused to let me put it down. I'd definitely think this deserves a 5/5 star rating. I love this series. Another favorite from Jennifer L. Armentrout. I might even love this even more than the Lux Series.

BOOK REVIEW: Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I finally got my paperback of Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout from The Book Depository and as always this series did not disappoint. I loved this as much as I loved the first two books in the series. I did want to smack Katy from time to time but hey, there were a lot of Daemon and Dawson so yeah, you get the picture. *nomnomnom*

 

To start with, I don't know if I still like Katy as much as I liked her during the first two novels. Seriously, she just refuses to listen and I just have no idea why. After everything that happened, she still refuses to listen. I don't know why but it kinda' ticked me off a bit. I know I like my female characters to be someone who could actually defend herself but sometimes I think she just has to accept the fact that she holds Daemon back in some ways. So yeah, it's really not that bad to sometimes know when you're just supposed to suck it up and just listen. Anyhoo, I still like their banter and the fact that she's managed to connect with both Daemon and Dawson in some ways. I mean not sexually or whatever with Dawson but in friendly kind of way. And my heart went out to her because of all the guilt that she felt. I still love Katy despite her flaws.

And moving on to our yummy alien twins, Daemon and Dawson. These two were just so different it was just so easy to tell them apart. I love them both even if Dawson was just too gloomy for his own good. He did go through a lot of awful things and he just got back so yeah, he's excused. I like both brothers because of their devotion towards their partners. Every time Daemon opened his mouth just made me turn into mush. Seriously, it should be illegal to be that seductive and hot even for a fictional character. Anyhow, also love the fact that Dawson somehow also seemed protective of Katy. Not in the way that Daemon is but like someone who actually cares about his brother's girlfriend or something. I don't know. I just think it's really sweet. I don't even know if it's just me but whatever. 

Overall, I loved this novel as much as the first two in the series. Daemon still has that effect on the female species I guess. The fact that a fictional character actually made me feel like mush is definitely something. I did miss some characters like Adam and Dee. I think a part of Dee actually died along with Adam. I also love the fact that Matthew seems more open to Katy and Daemon now. He is the closest thing to a father that the Luxen have after all. The return and appearance of certain characters surprised me though. I think this novel is just as enjoyable as Obsidian and Onyx. The cliffhanger ending is such a doozy though. I was like WTF?! Nuuuuuu. That did not just happen! Anyway, it just made me want to read Origins more though. 

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

BOOK REVIEW: Hopeless by Colleen Hoover

Another Colleen Hoover masterpiece. I just finished reading Hopeless a few hours ago and it has yet to sink in. I have no idea how Colleen comes up with these awesome stories. I loved her first two novels Slammed and Point of Retreat. In fact, I loved it so much I ended up ordering paperbacks even though I've read them already as ebooks. And I'm definitely getting Hopeless in paperback once it's available as well. I have to give my good friend and fellow blogger, Jona, credit for introducing me to Colleen Hoover and her novels btw.

 

To start with the novel's main character is called Sky. A 17 year old girl who was adopted and knows nothing about her past. She's lived her life by being stoic most of the time and could easily be mistaken for someone who is emotionally impaired. Honestly, it was so difficult for me to think of the way she has been living her life for years. I didn't even know if I wanted to be like her or pity her. Let's all face it there comes a time in our lives when we just want to feel nothing because everything just seems to hurt too much. Anyway, I love the fact that she was able to overcome her hurdles as the story progressed. I wanted to hug her every time she discovers something awful about her past. I do love Sky. I love the development of the story and I love the fact that after everything that she's been through that she has managed to grow up and go on with her life.

And of course, Colleen's novel wouldn't be complete without the oh so yummy Holder. I think I just found my soul mate. This guy is everything a girl could ever ask for. I just love everything about Holder. His intensity. His temperaments. His brutish and gentle ways. I just love everything about him. I love the fact that he was there for Sky the entire time she felt so hopeless. No pun intended. I love the way he knew how to handle or take care of her. He knew when he should be gentle and when he should just be rough. I just love a guy who knows what a girl needs even if he is broken himself.

Overall, I loved this novel as much as Slammed and Point of Retreat. I'm not comparing them since honestly, there is nothing compare. They're completely different from each other. What I do know is I love Colleen Hoover's writing style. It's the way she comes up with these lines that could melt the Ice Queen's heart. I'm telling you if Colleen were a guy then ladies be prepared to be swept off your feet. I love Hopeless.It made me feel a lot of emotions that I didn't even know I was capable of feeling. I felt like I was riding a roller coaster the entire time I was reading and I loved it. Believe me, that is saying a lot. I'm terrified of roller coasters. I cried. I laughed. I swooned. I really felt all the high's and low's of the entire story. It wasn't just a sappy love story between two teenagers who wanted a real relationship. It was about coping and making things right despite the fact that everything is just so messed up. The message the novel conveyed is so powerful I needed a few hours to let it all sink in. Anyway, I'm definitely getting myself a paperback of this one as soon as possible. I'd give this a 10/5 star rating if it were possible but alas, only 5/5 stars can be given. I might actually love this a little bit more than Slammed and Point of Retreat.
